Thank you for continuing to write the Outlander novels. They are indeed "outstanding." I have attended more than one gathering of interested readers to discuss the books. The gatherings are always fun, interesting, and filled with some ah-ha moments as well as laughter, over the enjoyment we all share for every novel in the series!

I agree with zaZen and your husband, Diana. I've passed along the book to some fellow female teachers and we are in love with the series. The funniest part is when we are discussing some of the more interesting scenes of the book and a student walks up to us in the hallway to ask a question. The conversation instantly stops and we put on our professional teacher hat and answer the student. Once he/she walks away we are back to our little huddle giggling like the middle school students we teach. Such fun!
ReplyDeleteIts true "Outlander families" pop up in all sorts of places. I belong to a knitting group online where projects and swaps are oriented to the Outlander novels. We are planning a Fiery Cross swap soon, we also have a knit-along starting with a pair of Scottish themed socks. Its great fun, we discuss the books and revel in our other passion...knitting.

I had some friends over for lunch today and we got talking about Tasha Tudor and her books. She was an author and illustrator of childrens books and a lover of corgi's. She invented Corgiville! What a surprise to see your blog about your Corgis tonight.

ReplyDelete**I did want to add... I just recently (yesterday) started to follow your blog (which I just discovered when I went on your website looking for information on Book 8). It looks like I have a lot of catching up to do so to speak.
I have, though, been a lover of your books since I was about 14 years old (I am now 27). My dad was the one who introduced me to them (and to the love of reading when I was a baby, which has only grown and I hope to pass on to my 2 boys (Hunter 4, Jaxon 2)). He felt that I would like them as much as he did (though he would tell me that beore I was to receive the next one in the series he would have to read them to ascertain that it was apropriate for me, but would always hand it over in the end)which of course he was right. All my friends were amazed that I was engrossed in these huge books at 14-17 years of age. Plus the fact tey would remember when I would reread them again once I had reach the end of however many I had of the series. My love for them has not waivered in the slightest. My dad is actually behind on reading them now. I have also read all the Lord John books and love them as much (well, nothing will equal to Jaime and Claire). So I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for your stories which have made me go through every emotion good and bad during the story, have the feeling as if the characters are family, and build a bond between my dad and I. Thank you! I have just finished Echo and have now restarted Outlander (which mysteriously disappeared when I was 17, which my husband so graciously got for me for Christmas on my new Kindle (Christmas also)). I, of course, anxiously await the new Lord John short, and have gotten, but not read yet the short about Roger's parents, and am hinting at my husband for the graphic novel, and not to forget Book 8.
Thank you again for the years of enjoyment. You are an amazing woman and author.

ReplyDeleteI have been a fan since 1995. I bought the paperbacks first and shared them with girlfriends. We were always discussing Claire & Jamie as if we were friends (or relatives!)
When I went to Books A Million to buy the graphic novel, the clerk (a man) wanted to know what was so exciting about a "comic book"
I proceeded to educate him about Claire, Jamie and all. When i was finished, he said he would start reading them :)

Craving THAT book, btw. :)

Diana Gabaldon is an outstanding story teller. Outlander is a big read - it is full of romance, adventure, magic and history. When Claire is transported from mid 20th century Scotland back to the 1740s she is surrounded by a wild country, warring clansmen, heroes, villains and much more. This book never slows down despite its length. The author manages effortlessly to also transport the reader back to this adventurous and romantic time. I think it would be hard for any reader not to be engulfed by the romance between Claire and the headstrong young Jamie Fraser. However, be warned, it is not a gentle romanctic read full of swelling bosoms and hinted-at lovemaking. This book is full of raw, untamed sex and somewhat graphic violence.
